Congresswomen Speier: Lerner Contempt Vote is Result of Taxpayer-Funded Political Witch Hunt

Statement

Date: April 10, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswomen Jackie Speier (D-San Francisco/San Mateo/Redwood City) issued the following statement after the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform voted to hold former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress.

"This is not a proud day for this committee. This spectacle was orchestrated to obscure facts that aren't partisan, and wouldn't put political points on the scoreboard. We had the opportunity to investigate and address real issues on how the IRS treated tax exempt groups across the political spectrum, and hear from Lois Lerner herself. Instead the Chairman decided to go the easier and more partisan route. After millions of dollars of taxpayer money spent, we have virtually nothing to show for it."
